What is breakup therapy?

The end of a relationship can often be one of the most traumatic periods in anyone’s life, regardless of who instigated it, or the circumstances surrounding it. There are often many practical matters that need dealing with first before you get the chance to think about yourself and how the breakup has affected you. But when you reach this moment and need help making sense of it and your emotions, we are here to help. We are not here to judge you, we are here to provide guidance and solutions in a supportive, non-judgemental environment. We work with you to offer a holistic approach, often blending different styles of therapy and coaching ensuring you receive the psychological support you need.

How can breakup counselling help?

Whilst you may have a supportive network of friends and family around you they cannot offer the objectivity of an experienced relationship therapist. We can help guide you through the myriad of emotions you may be experiencing and help you to understand, work through and accept them, ultimately finding a way to positively move forward towards your new future where you can be happy and fulfilled outside your old relationship. By combining therapies and counselling techniques we can help you to devise practical coping strategies to understand your emotions and build on your strengths.

No emotion is the wrong emotion

A break up leaves a hole, it can leave you grieving for the relationship you had and for the person you once loved, maybe still love. Everything you are feeling is normal, whether that’s anger, guilt, depression or just plain sadness. You have the right to feel this way but, we promise, it won’t last forever. We can help you through this time.

How we work

Everyone, and every break up, is different and there is no one-size fits all approach to therapy. We will work with you, often blending therapies together, so that you receive what works best for you. We will help you to identify and clarify the issues you are facing; sometimes we don’t know how to express these problems, perhaps you’ve never articulated them before – don’t worry, we are here to help you find that language. In the same way that there is no ‘wrong’ way to feel after a break up, there is also no ‘right’ response to breakup counselling but deciding to put yourself first is the first step in finding your way back to you.

What can you expect from therapy for relationship breakup?

Breakup counselling can be the start of a longer process but others may find a shorter course of therapy is sufficient. We offer therapy and counselling sessions in person at our London offices, over the telephone and online. Our sessions are all tailored to suit your needs and usually last from 30 minutes to an hour. Our courses usually consist of around 6 to 12 sessions.
