What does the ADHD assessment involve?
A structured, high-touch process that considers your symptoms, developmental history, day-to-day functioning and the wider clinical picture.
Pre-assessment review
Before your clinical assessment, you will complete relevant questionnaires and provide information about your developmental history. This gives your clinician important background information and helps the assessment focus in greater depth on your individual experiences.
Detailed clinical assessment
Your clinician will complete an in-depth assessment incorporating the DIVA-5 structured diagnostic interview, exploring ADHD symptoms in childhood and adulthood and how they have affected different areas of your life.
The assessment usually takes place as one extended 2.5–3-hour appointment, or two shorter sessions where appropriate.
Feedback & written report
You will have a dedicated feedback appointment to discuss the outcome and clinical reasoning, followed by a comprehensive written report detailing the information considered, diagnostic outcome, recommendations and suggested next steps.
Looking beyond ADHD symptoms
ADHD symptoms can overlap with other psychological, developmental and lifestyle factors. A good assessment therefore needs to consider more than whether particular symptoms are present.
Your clinician will explore whether symptoms have been present across childhood and adulthood, whether they affect more than one area of your life, and whether another or co-occurring explanation needs to be considered.

A diagnosis is never guaranteed
Our role is not to confirm a predetermined diagnosis. ADHD diagnosis is based on a full clinical and developmental assessment, validated tools and independent professional judgement.
If ADHD is not indicated, your clinician will explain the reasoning and your report will identify appropriate recommendations and next steps. The aim is to give you meaningful clarity, whatever the outcome.

ADHD assessment FAQs
How long does an ADHD assessment take?
The main clinical assessment will usually last approximately 2.5–3 hours. This can take place as one extended appointment or, where appropriate, be divided into two shorter sessions. Pre-assessment information and a separate feedback appointment are also included.
What is the DIVA-5?
The DIVA-5 is a structured clinical interview used as part of the diagnostic assessment of ADHD in adults. It explores ADHD symptoms during both childhood and adulthood and how those symptoms have affected different areas of a person's life. It is used as part of the wider clinical assessment rather than as a standalone test.
Does completing an assessment mean I will receive an ADHD diagnosis?
No. A diagnosis cannot be guaranteed before a clinical assessment has taken place. Your clinician will consider all of the information available and use independent professional judgement to determine whether ADHD provides the most appropriate explanation for your experiences.
What happens if ADHD is not indicated?
Your clinician will explain the reasoning during your feedback appointment. Your written report will also outline relevant findings and recommend other support, assessment or next steps that may be appropriate.
Will I receive a written report?
Yes. A comprehensive written report is included within the £1,250 assessment fee. It will explain the information considered, assessment findings, clinical reasoning, diagnostic outcome and personalised recommendations.
