Bereavement counselling explained
Bereavement and grief is a response to loss, particularly involving death. This type of emotional response can also affect us physically and socially. There are other types of loss such as the end of a relationship or losing a home or a job. There’s no right or wrong way to feel. All can feel overwhelming but it is completely normal to experience such intense feelings.

How might you feel?
People respond to loss in different ways, responses and symptoms include:● shock and numbness● overwhelming sadness, with lots of crying● tiredness or exhaustion● anger – towards the person you’ve lost or the reason for your loss● guilt – for example, guilt about feeling angry, about something you said or did not say, or not being able to stop your loved one dyingThese feelings may not be there all the time, you may experience them at different times, and some of the more powerful feelings may appear unexpectedly.

“There are lots of different stages to the grieving process – all of which are perfectly natural. However, sometimes we can get stuck at one particular stage or the effects can be delayed. Our bereavement therapy can not only help you to gain a better understanding of your experience, but also help you to move on in a constructive way”

Our approach to bereavement therapy and traumatic grief counselling
We understand that everyone responds differently to loss and can experience grief in distinctive ways. Our approach to bereavement therapy and grief counselling is tailored to your circumstance. We create a safe environment for you to express yourself freely. Our aim is to help you accept your loss, and give you the tools to get you back on track.
A bereavement and traumatic grief case study
Patricia, a single mother, had recently experienced the traumatic grief of her father’s death. She was struggling to face work because of the immense pressure she felt with now having to support and care for her elderly mother as well as her two young children.Patricia had no one she felt she could talk to about the loss of her father. The thought of caring for two young children and her mother both financially and emotionally were overwhelming and Patricia began to feel she was sinking.During our sessions, I encouraged her to talk about how she was feeling about the death of her father. I provided practical advice on allowances that Patricia would be entitled to, along with details of local care centres that could help her and her mother.
