Family and systemic therapy
Heal your family and fix issues at home.
What is family and systemic therapy?
By their very nature, children do not have the same agency over their lives that adults do. That means some issues can be more effectively treated by taking a holistic view. Family therapy (also referred to as systemic therapy) is a form of psychotherapy designed to tackle the issues with a young patient, when treating them one-to-one doesn’t work.

How does it work?
We look at the way your family communicates and how it makes the child feel. But sometimes it’s about finding a way for a child to express how they feel to parents, and helping a family find new ways of supporting one another.
Beyond the family, we can also look at their wider group of relationships in school or college, and work with the head of pastoral care at an establishment to give them the expert advice they need to re-integrate a child into school or college. This keeps us part of the process in the school, but from a distance.
“Family therapy looks at the wider group dynamics of the family and it can be a hugely rewarding process for adults as well as children.”

How we provide it
Each family therapy is different, but we usually have a group session to kick off, then sessions with just the parents, and then just the children, before bringing everyone back together. Our sessions usually last from 30 minutes to an hour and we usually recommend a course of around 6 to 12 sessions.
