Relationship mediation

Make the necessary arrangements for a separation or divorce with an impartial team.

What is relationship mediation?

Relationship mediation is when a trained professional, called a mediator, works with those whose relationship has broken down to help make necessary arrangements for a separation or divorce. Mediation also helps with all aspects of a relationship breakdown from property and finances, child maintenance and contact, to living arrangements.

This method helps settle disputes without having to go to court, allowing for smoother separation. But mediation to work, both parties need to be there as it can help reduce the level of conflict and tension, which can be particularly beneficial if there are children involved.

What is the role of a mediator?

As a mediator we can help assist and guide those involved towards a resolution. There is no judgement. We are here to offer unbiased and constructive direction. Our role is to remain impartial, hear all sides and help everyone involved find a solution they can all agree to.  Mediation helps improve communication and allows those involved to feel heard. It helps you to stay in control. It’s your time to express how you feel without arguments. It’s important to remember that no-one will make you do anything against your wishes. We don’t decide the outcome for you but we do help the parties understand and focus on the important issues needed to reach a resolution. Mediation is there to help find a solution that everyone agrees with.

Is mediation just about relationships?

Mediation helps with all aspects of a relationship breakdown from property and finances, child maintenance and contact, to living arrangements. Mediation can help settle disputes without having to go to court; its goal is a smoother separation.
“Relationship breakdowns are never easy. Even with the best will in the world, emotions can cloud people’s judgements, situations can rapidly escalate, and people can very soon find themselves entrenched in a position which is hard to draw back from. We help to pre-empt any impasse by taking some of the emotional charge out of the conversation, and promoting greater empathy and collaboration in the process.” Richard Reid - CEO of Pinnacle Therapy, Coaching and Psychological Consultant

How is mediation different from relationship counselling?

Mediation usually requires both parties to be there. It’s a safe space for everyone to talk and deal with the issues and practicalities of separation. It can help reduce the level of conflict and tension between the parties which can be particularly beneficial if there are children involved. We will work closely with both of you to guide you through the process, set goals, and implement a workable solution.
