What is relationship mediation?

Mediation happens when a trained professional, called a mediator, works with those whose relationship has broken down to help make necessary arrangements for a separation or divorce. More often than not, it can be difficult to agree on a way forward with your partner. We are here to help navigate what can be tricky ground.

What is the role of a mediator?

As a mediator we can help assist and guide those involved towards a resolution. There is no judgement. We are here to offer unbiased and constructive direction. Our role is to remain impartial, hear all sides and help everyone involved find a solution they can all agree to.  Mediation helps improve communication and allows those involved to feel heard. It helps you to stay in control. It’s your time to express how you feel without arguments. It’s important to remember that no-one will make you do anything against your wishes. We don’t decide the outcome for you but we do help the parties understand and focus on the important issues needed to reach a resolution. Mediation is there to help find a solution that everyone agrees with.

How is mediation different from relationship counselling?

Mediation usually requires both parties to be there. It’s a safe space for everyone to talk and deal with the issues and practicalities of separation. It can help reduce the level of conflict and tension between the parties which can be particularly beneficial if there are children involved. We will work closely with both of you to guide you through the process, set goals, and implement a workable solution.
