Panic attack counselling
What are panic attacks?
Anxiety is a natural response to stressful or dangerous situations, but if this is regular and for no apparent reason, you are likely to be suffering from a panic disorder.
A panic attack is a sudden episode of intense fear that triggers severe physical reactions when there is no real danger or apparent cause. These often occur without warning and start for no apparent reason or can be triggered by something specific such as a large social event. Panic attacks can be very frightening, and you might think you’re losing control, having a heart attack or, in most extreme cases, dying. An attack can usually last for 5 or 10 minutes, though some come in waves over an hour or so.
Panic attacks are usually accompanied by a range of symptoms such as:
- Palpitations
- Shortness of breath or choking
- Sweating, trembling, feeling sick, dizzy or faint
- Numbness or pins and needles
- Chest pains
- Fear of dying or going mad, seeming unreal or detached
- Hyperventilating

How we help
Panic attacks can be long term and affect people’s daily life. At Pinnacle, you’ll work collaboratively with a trained panic disorder specialist who teaches you how to manage your panic attacks, identify the root cause, its symptoms and triggers.
We treat panic attacks holistically and often blend therapies together, using a combination of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and hypnotherapy, EMDR as well as psychotherapy and counselling techniques. This is called integrative counselling and is used so every client gets the treatment that works best for them.
